Audrey’s Place Foundation funds 20 nursing scholarships

Addie Tepper, Chair of Audrey’s Place Foundation, believes that changing healthcare for the better starts with supporting nursing education.
It has been 15 years since Audrey’s Place Foundation made their first gift to establish an award at the Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing. Now, the Foundation, led by the Tepper family of Toronto, has generously donated $500,000 to secure full scholarships for 20 Bloomberg Nursing students.
“Our goal has always been to support as many nursing students as possible,” says Addie Tepper, Chair of Audrey’s Place Foundation. “This is a natural next step for our Foundation, as we strive to increase our support of students at the Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing, the number one school of nursing in the country.”
An unprecedented gift to nursing education
With this gift, Audrey’s Place Foundation is the first donor at Bloomberg Nursing to cover students’ full tuition and fees at this scale.
“The generosity of the Tepper family and Audrey’s Place Foundation supports one of Bloomberg Nursing’s key priorities, which is to help our students earn their degree in nursing without having to worry about their financial circumstances,” says Robyn Stremler, Dean of the Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing. “We are grateful for the compassionate support of donors like Addie and the Tepper family, who continue to have a significant impact on the future of nursing education.”
When we support nurses, it makes a difference within the profession and has a trickle-down effect.
Tepper sees this continued support of Bloomberg Nursing as foundational to her family’s philanthropic legacy, inspired by her mother Audrey, a former registered nurse.
When we support nurses, it makes a difference within the profession and has a trickle-down effect.
“My mother has always been, and continues to be, passionate about her love of nursing. When we support nurses, it makes a difference within the profession and has a trickle-down effect, positively impacting the future of healthcare delivery,” says Tepper. “Investing in the future of nursing is fundamental to the Foundation’s mission of alleviating the challenges in our healthcare sector and having a meaningful impact on our local communities”.
Helping students change the future of healthcare
As the primary caregiver for her father, Tepper has seen first-hand the impact that nurses have on a patient’s experience with the healthcare system. Watching nurses provide care for her father has given Tepper a new perspective on their essential role in health care. “I have seen the level of responsibility that nurses have, and it is humbling to witness their expertise and their level of commitment to their patients,” says Tepper.
“Looking to the future, we want to continue supporting even more students at Bloomberg Nursing. I look forward to seeing them graduate and change healthcare for the better.”
