Our health care is failing. I was a patient in hospital for six months last year. As a retired nurse, I was quite surprised how nursing care has changed. The waiting for surgery has been way too long. I even had to practically beg to get an MRI. I had sepsis, which had settled in my right knee.

For the first two months practically nothing was done for me. I asked daily for some test to be done. This made my pain worse. I was in a transition unit, which was OK, but nurses don’t have much time to make patients comfortable. There was no time.

Some patients are sitting up in a wheelchair from morning to evening. That was difficult to see.
I believe the long waiting time resulted in my knee needing three surgeries. I was finally put on intravenous antibiotics. Still now, after the six months in hospital, I am still on antibiotics. All this waiting until something was done was unbelievable.
I was always told everything was OK. Well, it was not OK. I had lots of pus in my knee. Something has to be done. We cannot afford to lose our good health care. Thanks to all the nursing staff I met.

Alberta premier flops in dealing with Trump
In the throes of trying to deal with a major tariff threat to Canada from a Yosemite Sam USA president, Premier Danielle Smith decided to play an essential card out of order.
By refusing to sign on with her fellow Canadian premiers to develop a response to the threat, she allowed the hound to bite the rabbit, and this particular hound has an advanced olfactory lobe. She says the way to solve all this is through diplomacy and negotiation.
Many will agree with that, but only after you’ve shown the bully you are not going to roll over and play dead.

Moe’s criticism of Trudeau distracts from his record
Re: ‘PM ‘harmful to Canadians’: Moe’, Jan. 17, SP
Really? Our Premier Moe should be careful of where he is throwing rocks. His comment on the PM should not be used to divert attention from what we have had to live with in Saskatchewan.
